The Foundation of the study is based on the pioneering work of Florentine psychiatrist, Roberto Assagioli, MD., who, as early as 1910 advocated a model, Psychosynthesis, for strengthening personal and spiritual development, including the many forms of meditation, active imagination and self-care practices. These practices include gaining access to the higher brain’s innate wisdom and learning methods to balance our body energy for healing. Huntington’s Vulnerability Model is founded in decades of clinical work. We have presented this teaching to many hundreds of colleagues throughout the US, Canada and Europe. The core of the model, first taught in 1985 to a large drug and alcohol center in Toronto, is the appreciation of vulnerability as the driving motivation in substance misuse. It has since been adapted and applied by professionals to trauma recovery, young adult anxiety, cancer care, grief work, and other clinical issues.

Those of you in clinical or private practice serving communities experiencing all forms of human struggle will be able to apply your learning as soon as you get back to work. Adaptations of the outlook and practices will also find their way into your repertoire as you work with yourself and all vulnerable populations.

The consistent feedback we receive from our students is that they appreciate their own personal experiences during the training and so gain confidence in moving forward with what they have learned.

We are fortunate to present this training at the beautiful Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Lloyd Harbor NY. Filled with beautiful art, the seminary is a non-sectarian retreat center open to all. It has a large communal space and wonderful private room lodging available. On Long Island, the seminary is ten minutes away from the lively town of Huntington and a taxi ride away from the Huntington train station.

Much of this beautiful Park Preserve is maintained as a nature preserve, with a focus on conservation of bird habitat. The “Caumsett Bird Conservation Area,” a 1,255 acre portion of the park, lies within the park’s forests, salt marshes, and maritime beaches. The conservation area protects high-quality habitat that supports breeding populations of several threatened or endangered species including piping plovers, common terns and least terns. Other migratory species make use of the protected landscape. The park also allows for recreation such as horseback riding, fishing, hiking, biking and cross-country skiing. Scuba diving is allowed by permit.
